US retail giant Wal-Mart has said it plans to close down its only North American unionised store.

Last year the store in Jonquière, Quebec, Canada became Wal-Mart’s first North American store to be successfully unionised but will now be shut down due to a deadlock in negotiations with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union that represents 180 workers at the store, reported The Financial Times.

“The company has been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement with the union that would allow the store to operate efficiently and profitably,” Wal-Mart was quoted by the FT as saying.
