Canadian manufacturer McCain Foods has filed a complaint with federal authorities alleging that frozen self-rising pizzas from the US are being dumped on the Canadian market.

Dumping can mean exporters are selling goods abroad for less than at home or selling products at a loss. It can lead to price erosion, price suppression and lost sales for other manufacturers, commented New Brunswick-based McCain.

A spokesperson for the anti-dumping and countervailing directorate of the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency confirmed the agency’s decision that it had enough information and evidence to justify an investigation. The names of the exporters under investigation have not been identified.

The government is expected to release further details in two weeks’ time, while a separate tribunal will rule within 60 days, reported the New York Times.
