Some 500 striking workers at a chocolate manufacturing plant in Canada owned by US company Hershey have returned to work.
They were protesting against what they argued was the company’s refusal to help fund benefits for retired staff members. They had been out on strike for five weeks, before ratifying a deal at the weekend.
The Montreal Gazette reported that Harry Ghadban, a representative of the union CAW Local 462, said the deal agreed between the workers and the company includes a provision the company will divert some funds for retirement benefits, as well as wage increases.
