The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to consume Premier brand Gourmet Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese with best before dates of AU1702 and AU1802, as it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product is sold in a 454 g package with the UPC 6 28444 00113 3. The best before date label is located on the bottom of the container.

The affected product was sold from 19 July to 9 August through Costco stores in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Although the affected product is past its best before date, consumers who have purchased this product are advised to check the best before date at the bottom of containers they may have at home.

Vancouver, British Columbia-based Premier Seafood Ltd is voluntarily advising the consumers who may have purchased the affected product to return the affected product to a Costco store.

Food contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but consumption of food contaminated with this bacterium can cause listeriosis. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and  nausea. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
