Canadian food processor McCain Foods has confirmed it has dropped a trade complaint over imports of frozen pizza.

The company, which makes frozen pizzas and French fries, had alleged that US food makers such as Kraft had been selling frozen pizza in Canada at below-cost prices, but has now dropped its complaint.
Back in May, the Canada Border Services Agency announced a temporary 34.9% levy on self-rising frozen pizzas from the US.
By dropping the complaint, McCain cast doubt on whether the duties will remain in force. For that to happen, the quasi-judicial Canadian International Trade Tribunal must rule the imports harmed Canadian producers. The tribunal cancelled a public hearing yesterday after McCain said it wouldn’t participate, reported the National Post.
