Canadian supermarket group Loblaw has launched a ‘buy big save big’ campaign to promote its larger quantity club pack line.

For the next three weeks, the company will be cutting club pack prices and displaying the line more prominently in store.

Announcing the promotion, Loblaw said that it came in response to changing consumption patterns brought on by the economic downturn.

According to Loblaw, Canadians are increasingly making fewer grocery shopping trips, seeking value brands and buying large size formats to take advantage of bulk prices.

“Customers don’t need to waste their time stocking up anywhere else when they can get large format products and a great selection of their favourite national brands without paying a membership fee,” Inge van den Berg, vice president, public affairs and investor relations, said.

Yesterday, Loblaw, Canada’s largest food retailer, vowed to sell only “sustainably sourced” seafood in its stores by the end of 2013.
