Scandinavian food group Arla Foods has announced that it has launched a blue cheese in Canada, claiming that it is the first company to produce blue cheese in the country.
The first batch of the new product, called Danablu +50, has just arrived in stores. ”We have very big ambitions for growth,” said Doug Smith, CEO, Arla Foods Canada. ”But to achieve our aim of doubling sales of blue cheese, we need to combine our imports of cheese with local production.”
The cheese is being produced at Arla’s dairy in Atwood. Arla said it is not only the first locally produced blue cheese in Canada, but also represents the first time Danish Blue has been produced outside Denmark.
