Bulgaria has banned the import of pigs, pork and pork products from the German sates of North-Rhine Westphalia and Rhineland-Pfalz, Rocherath in Belgium and Luxembourg following reports of swine fever outbreaks in those areas.

The ban does not apply to products that have been heat-processed using technology that is known to destroy the swine fever virus. Pork imported into Bulgaria before the ban came into place will be sent for thermal processing, reported the Bulgarian News Agency.
