Brazilian biscuit group Mabel will invest R$20m (US$6.0m) in new production facilities.
The new factory will be constructed in Araquari, in the state of Santa Catarina. It will be the company’s sixth production facility and the first in the south of the country. It has been designed to produce 2.7 million tones of wafers and salty snacks.
It is hoped that the new facility, which should create some 300 jobs, will enable Mabel to better compete against Swiss giant Nestlé, which is dominant in the Brazilian biscuit market.
“We expect the factory to go on stream in mid-2003,” said Salvador Rufino, Mabel’s marketing manager
