French supermarket giant Carrefour is to invest 30m reals (US$8.6m) in a second hypermarket in the Brazilian city of Santo Andre, Sao Paulo.

The store will directly employ 400 people, as well as providing work for 1,600 people indirectly, reported the Gazeta Mercantil.

Carrefour is the world’s second-largest grocery retailer after Wal-Mart, and operates over 9,000 stores worldwide.
