American Foods Group, a US-based beef producer, has acquired family-run business Calihan Pork Processors.
Calihan, located in the city of Peoria, Illinois, has been run and owned by the Landon family since 1937 and is headed up by president Tom Landon. The company “specialises in fresh pre-rigor pork” – meat removed from the carcass prior to chilling – primal cuts and pork offal. It supplies “some of the leading US fresh sausage makers”, according to its website.
“Calihan Pork Processors is an excellent fit with our company,” said Steve Van Lannen, president and chief operating officer of American Foods Group. “They are a Midwest company with strong family values; they put their employees first, build partner relationships with customers, and operate their business with integrity.”
American Foods, based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is owned by Rosen’s Diversified, described as “a vertically integrated family of companies that provides products from the farm to the table”. The beef processor supplies the retail and foodservice channels, and also offers a private-label manufacturing service.
It supplies fresh, frozen and value-added beef from its eight production plants in the US.
