By GlobalData“Our proposed investment will further enhance our capabilities as a leading desserts manufacturer and we anticipate that we will have a number of new jobs available in the second half of next year if this proposal goes ahead,” a Bakkavor spokesperson said.
The site manufactures own-label desserts for UK grocers, employing 720 full-time factory and 100 office staff. The application states the proposed number of employees could rise to 940 factory and 150 office workers. Bakkavor is looking to spend GBP20m (US$26.8m) on the project.
“There has been significant investment in the site over the years and the latest investment of GBP20m will see the company realise further growth
and future potential areas of expansion in a very competitive marketplace,” Bakkavor’s application reads.
“The proposal will allow Bakkavor to satisfy future market growth which is forecasted at 3.5% per annum and develop further growth opportunities resulting from investing in new capabilities. The new facilities will enable the expansion of the existing trifle business and additional pastry opportunities. Without the proposed improvements/expansion, the existing site has insufficient capacity to take advantage of these opportunities.”
