Bakkavor CEO Agust Gudmundsson said: “The acquisition reinforces our commitment to seek growth opportunities within the US market and complements our existing operations in California and Pennsylvania.”

According to the B. Robert’s website, the North Carolina-based company makes products from entrées and meals to side dishes and soups.

Bakkavor said the US firm’s “main customer” is Kroger-owned Harris Teeter but added it “supplies products to a number of regional and national retailers”.

B. Robert’s was set up in 1992. Co-owners Sandy Berlin and Robert Shore bought the firm in 2004. The two men will assist with the move to Bakkavor’s ownership but will not stay with the business.

A third co-owner, Peter Dow, will stay on as general manager of the firm’s facility in Charlotte.
