A row has erupted over Britain’s refusal to import a 219kg consignment of muesli bars sent to feed the 371 athletes in the Australian team during the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

According to an article in the Herald-Sun, the UK Environmental Health Department told global freight forwarding company Schenker Australia that it would need a complete list of all the ingredients in the bars, and the percentages of the ingredients, before it can let them into the country.
The 7200 K-Time Twist and LCM breakfast bars are manufactured by US cereals giant Kellogg’s and contain yoghurt, milk, eggs and honey. As far as the UK quarantine authorities are concerned, these ingredients are restricted imports because of disease fears.
Perry Crosswhite, CEO of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, said the recipe request will mean that Kellogg’s trade secrets are violated.
Kellogg’s has said however that new information has been sent to the UK in a bid to get the bars to the Games.
