The Australian Meat Council and the National Meat Association of Australia are expected to announce merger plans.

The new organisation would represent Australia’s beef processors, reports the Herald and Weekly Times. The agreement to merge is likely to be announced in Queensland next week. The amalgamated body will cover nearly all Australia’s beef export processors and most domestic operators.

A push for similar unity is also reported to be underway in the cattle industry. The Cattle Council of Australia is seeking closer collaboration with the Australian Beef Association to end years of antagonism between the two groups.
