Scientists in Queensland, Australia, have created a giant prawn, measuring 30cm in length and weighing more than 450g when fully grown.

The size is too big for commercial purposes so they will be harvesting them young, reducing the time needed to rear a saleable product.
The project’s principal scientist Dr Nigel Preston has been experimenting with crustacean blood lines to find those that grow faster and produce the biggest specimens.
The farmed super-prawn will be just as healthy as its ocean-going relative because there is a complete ban using any anti-biotics in Australian prawn fisheries and Preston’s stock is reared organically.
