Discount retailer Aldi is to open up to 30 stores in Australia next year.
The company, which has around 265 outlets in the country, told just-food today (5 October) that it intends to open between 25 and 30 stores in 2012.
The retailer indicated that its expansion would be in the east of Australia. “Aldi is focused on its growth on the east coast of Australia – New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.”
The Australian food retail market is dominated by Woolworths Ltd and Coles, which account for around 80% of sales. However, Aldi said Australian consumers had been attracted to its offer.
“Aldi has been pleased with the way Australians have embraced the Aldi philosophy of high-quality exclusive branded products at permanently low prices,” the company said. “With the focus on cost of living now greater than ever, customers are seeking fantastic value, and finding it at Aldi.”
