Dutch retail giant Ahold has confirmed that exclusive negotiations with joint prospective buyers, investor Fransisco de Narvaez and French retailer Casino Guichard Perrachon, for the sale of Ahold’s controlling stake in Argentine supermarket chain Disco have ended.
Ahold said the talks had ended because the parties could not reach a final agreement.
Ahold said that discussions on the sale of Disco are continuing with interested parties but it would not provide further details at this stage.
Ahold wants to sell Disco, which operated 237 stores at the end of June 2003, as part of its strategic plan to restructure its portfolio, to divest underperforming assets, and to concentrate on its mature and most stable markets.
