UK chicken heavyweight 2 Sisters Food Group is creating more than 130 extra jobs at its factory in Derby, central England, after clinching a new deal with a “major retailer”.

The factory already employs around 500 workers – but the new order will mean it needs to expand production so it is looking to take on an extra 136 staff.

The identity of the retailer has not been revealed.

2 Sisters bought the Derby site from S&A Foods in October 2015 after the ethnic food maker entered administration.

Site director Billy Storer said: “Derby is a great place to work and the business has invested in the very latest production line technology, which has provided us with a great platform to ramp up volume and develop new cooked chicken products.”

2 Sisters announced plans to create an additional 100 jobs at the Derby plant in January last year.

The company said at the time that the move followed a “multi-million pound investment in the new state-of-the-art facility”.

The 100 new employees were necessary as 2 Sisters moved from a single to double working shift pattern.

In December 2 Sisters announced it was increasing output at another UK chicken processing site at Flixton in Suffolk.
