The global food industry noticed an 8.3% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by J. R. Simplot’s 12.01% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.78% when compared with September 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.68% share of the global food industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.12% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 9.48% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 16.53% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 27.27% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food hiring activity in October 2022, an 18.45% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.21% in October 2022, down 13.86% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 21.92% share in October 2022, a decline of 11.18% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.96% share in October 2022 and a drop of 34.35% over September 2022.
Top five food companies by recruitment activity in October 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 10.7% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food industry during October 2022 over September 2022.
J. R. Simplot posted 74 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 31.48% over the previous month, followed by McCain Foods with 62 jobs and a flat growth. Charoen Pokphand Foods Public with 38 IT jobs and Bunge with 36 jobs, recorded a 50% decline and a 12.2% drop, respectively, while Rich Products recorded a 30.43% drop with 32 job postings during October 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 56.33% share, which marked a 14.95% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 23.54%, registering a 16.18% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.37% share and an 18.32% drop over September 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.11% and a month-on-month drop of 40.91%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.65%, registering a 100% increase over the previous month.
