The global food industry noticed a 3.2% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by The J. R. Simplot’s 15% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2.49% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.76% share of the global food industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 6.6% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 10.89% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 27.78% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food hiring activity in September 2022, a 22.78% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.64% in September 2022, up 6.54% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 20.28% share in September 2022, a decline of 7.59% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 18.19% share in September 2022 and a rise of 4.8% over August 2022.
Top five food companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 14.14% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
The J. R. Simplot posted 108 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 31.71% over the previous month, followed by Nestle with 88 jobs and a 13.73% decline. Charoen Pokphand Foods Public with 64 IT jobs and Rich Products with 46 jobs, recorded a 12.28% growth and a 76.92% rise, respectively, while Bunge recorded a 10.81% rise with 41 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 56.25% share, which marked a 9.76% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 23.75%, registering an 11.86% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.67% share and a 22.08% drop over August 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.06% and a month-on-month drop of 4.35%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.28%, registering a 33.33% decrease over the previous month.
