The number of total SKUs on promotion at Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Ocado increased during August, continuing the trend from July, according to the latest just-food Promo Tracker.
Some 38% of products on sale at Tesco were promoted in August, against almost 35% in July and 23% of SKUs in June, figures from mysupermarket-insights.co.uk reveal.

While Tesco had the highest number of promotions, Sainsbury’s provided the largest average sale per promotion, providing a GBP1.06 (US$1.63) average sale per promotion.
The UK’s second largest retailer also had the second largest percentage of SKUs on promotion, with some 33.61% of its 22,975 SKUs on promotion.
Asda had 24.88% of its SKUs on promotion, up marginally on the 23.4% of products on promotion in July.
Ocado had 15.4% of its products on promotion during June, making it the only retailer to offer fewer promotions over the period.

By GlobalDataAgain, Danone’s Activia brand was the most promoted food brand in Augst, with 93.7% of its SKUs at a discount.
Yoghurt products remained the most promoted in August with Actimel being the sixth most promoted with 87.3% of SKUs on promotion and Muller, with 77.5% of products on promotion, coming in at number 11.
