UK-based Delamere Dairy has won retail deals in Australia for its goat’s milk butter and is also lining up listings in India.
Delamere’s goat’s milk is now stocked in Australian supermarket IGA, three regional retail chains and a number of independent retailers. The company, based in Knutsford in north-west England, also manufactures milk, cheese and yogurt made from goat’s milk, along with regular cow’s milk and sheep’s yogurt and cheeses.
The company said it worked with the UK’s Department for International Trade, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and London-based International Trade Advisers to secure the distribution deal. Delamere said it expects trade with Australia to reach six-figure sums this year as it targets a total turnover of GBP25m (US$32.8m) in 2019.
Delamere exports to more than 25 countries, including the US and the Middle East, with potential supply deals lined up with “new partners” in India.
Jonathan Cope, the company’s export director, said: “This new exporting opportunity has extended our international reach, and we’re expecting Australian sales to become a significant revenue stream for the business. Even though Australia has its own goats’ milk industry, we carried out analysis of the product range in major retailers via shopping websites, and it became quickly apparent there was a gap in the market for us.
“Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the health benefits associated with our products, demonstrated in the overseas demand we are seeing.”
