Ferrara Candy Co., the US confectioner that is part of Italy-based giant Ferrero, is to close an office in California, affecting more than 80 roles.
The company, home to brands including SweeTarts and Laffy Taffy, is to shut the office in Glendale by the end of the year, according to a filing at California’s Employment Development Department.
The filing said the number of employees affected stands at 88. Ferrara had not responded to a request for comment on the future for the staff and on the rationale for the move at the time of writing.
Ferrara, acquired by Nutella and Kinder Bueno owner Ferrero in 2017, has its corporate head office in Illinois.
Ferrero has steadily expanded in the US through M&A in recent years. In January 2018, the company snapped up a clutch of Nestlé’s confectionery assets in the US, combining brands such as SweeTarts and Butterfinger with the Ferrara stable it had acquired a few months earlier.
In April this year, Ferrero bought snacks assets, including the Keebler and Famous Amos brands, from Kellogg.
