UK ambient food business Symington’s is eyeing growth in the US market after securing product listings with American retail giant Walmart.
The deal is estimated to be worth GBP8m (US$10.2m) to the UK manufacturer.
The business, based in Leeds in northern England, will see its Naked Noodle brand sold in 3,000 Walmart stores across the states. Five variants of the snack pots (Thai Sweet Chilli, Thai Green Curry, Japanese Teriyaki, Chinese Chow Mein and Singapore Curry) will be on shelves.
The Walmart venture marks Symington’s entry into the US retail market. Naked Noodle has not been sold in the US previously.
The deal fits in with Symington’s business strategy to grow its brands around the world. The company is targeting $10m in retail sales value in the US over the next two years.
Scott Hall, export account manager at Symington’s, said: “Symington’s has enjoyed great success across both domestic and global markets. This deal with Walmart is fantastic news for our business, and reflective of the growing strength of our Naked brand.
“The relationship with Walmart holds huge potential for both companies. We are excited about building on this initial success into 2020 and beyond, as we look to emulate Naked’s phenomenal UK growth in the States.”
