Tofu manufacturer House Foods America is investing an undisclosed amount in its California facility to increase production amid rising demand for plant-based foods.
The business plans to expand its plant in Garden Grove by 36,000 square feet, along with new equipment to raise production output by 50%, according to a statement from the tofu specialist, which supplies retailers and foodservice channels with its non-GMO, gluten-free and Kosher-certified tofu products.

House Foods America was founded in 1983 and has a parent company in Asia – House Foods Japan – supplying curry sauces and spices. In the US, it also owns the El Burrito brand of Mexican foods and Flavour of Japan, along with ownership of the Hinode Tofu business.
Gen Ohno, the vice president of sales, marketing and product development at House Foods America, said: “We’ve been astonished by how the demand for tofu and other plant-based foods has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. Whether their main motivation is to be healthier or to protect the environment, it’s clear that Americans want to eat more plant-based foods – and that interest is not going away.
“We’ve seen this in our own tofu sales, which have grown incrementally year over year, and we’re excited about the need for a newly expanded facility in order to keep up with the demand.”
