The government of the Philippines has announced that it will lobby each European Union member state in a bid to get the rates of import tax on Philippines tuna lowered.

The EU has already agreed in principle to compensate the Philippines for the high tariffs that are charged on the country’s tinned tuna exports, but the Philippines government wants the 24% duty charge to be cut by at least half. They believe they way to achieve this is by lobbying each and every EU country.

The World Trade Organisation currently has the issue of the tariffs on tinned tuna exported to the EU from the Philippines under consideration.
