Western’s Smokehouse, a US-based meat-snacks manufacturer, is set to acquire local peer Thrushwood Farms.
Family-owned Western’s, based in Greentop, Missouri, said it has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Thrushwood of Galesburg, Illinois. Both firms are described as crafted meat-snacks businesses making products such as sticks, strips, bars, and bites from grass-fed beef and antibiotic-free pork, chicken and turkey. They both also offering contract manufacturing services and private label.
The two companies are backed by Charis Consumer Partners, a “small independent group of investors”, according to a statement announcing the deal.
Ben Rudman, the president of Western’s and a partner at Charis Consumer Partners, said: “Dating back 40 years, both companies have had tremendous mutual respect. The Hankes family is a pillar of the Galesburg community and the meat-processing industry. On a combined basis, we now have more capacity, capability, and innovation resources to help our customers grow.”
Thrushwood also owns a retail store that will close on 22 February so the manufacturing side of the business can focus on expansion, with a view to creating further jobs.
Doug Hankes, the vice president of Thrushwood and now a new shareholder in Western’s, added: “Our family has known the Western family for decades and this combination just makes sense. We are thrilled to partner with Western’s and Charis and look forward to using this partnership to help our customers grow.”
