Surya Foods has opened a new production facility near London to manufacture its branded snacks and to serve private-label customers.
The site is located next to the world foods manufacturer’s existing plant in the town of Harwich, Essex, and has been built following a GBP2m (US$2.6m) investment. New products have already rolled off the production line – Thai Dragon Sweet Chilli Prawn Crackers and Thai Dragon Thai Cracker Mix – which have listings in discount retailer Aldi.

As well as snacks, Surya Foods’ portfolio also consists of rice, noodles, pulses, ready meals, spreads and sauces, among other lines.
The new facility will produce other snacks such as corn puffs, fruit, nut and seed selections, and mixed savouries originating from across the globe and destined for the retail and foodservice channels. The investment has created 30 additional jobs.
Managing Director Harry Dulai said: “During the last 20 years, in response to the UK’s more adventurous culinary tastes, we have taken Surya Foods from rice production and world food importers to a major manufacturer of leading mainstream brands. We are passionate about authentic tasting food products and have poured all our expertise into this new facility, which will enable us to produce some of the world’s favourite snacks right here in Essex.”
