Dutch fish processor Kennemervis Groep has acquired Bobeldijk Food Group in the Netherlands, a vegan products and meat-alternative manufacturer, for an undisclosed sum.

Kennemervis (KVG) said in a statement the deal will enable Bobeldijk to “accelerate growth in its vegetable products market”. All employees will remain in place, as will managing director Remko Vogelenzang, who will report to the chief executive of Kennemervis, Eugene Scholten.

Scholten commented: “We see around us that consumers, markets and customers are constantly changing. We want to continue to respond to this in the best possible way and see good results.”

Kennemervis is a family-owned business supplying the retail and foodservice channels and has plants in the Netherlands and Denmark.

Bobeldijk, which started in the 1970s in the butchery business, is based in the Dutch city of Deventer. It supplies vegan alternatives to products such as nuggets, steak and fish fingers under the Vegafit brand.

A statement on the Bobeldijk website states that, from 1 January, the company is focusing, through the Vegafit brand, on the production of vegan food, after having disposed of the meat-production asset Chateau Briand.
