The New York-based Meow Mix Company, producer of Meow Mix and Alley Cat brand dry cat foods, has revealed plans to launch Meow TV, the first television programming targeted specifically at cats.

The company said that it will now tour the US for eight weeks from 17 July, conducting open auditions to find two human voices, one adult and one child, to feature on the Meow TV programme in the autumn.

The idea for the programme, explained the company, was born out its desire to “bridge the communication gap between cats and “their” people”.

“According to recent studies, 22% of pet owners watch TV shows they know their pets enjoy,” said CEO Richard Thompson: “We wanted to create a revolutionary new show that would pique interest and most importantly, make cats happy.”

The first Meow TV half-hour special programme will feature the newly chosen voices along with visuals chosen to be appealing to cats; including birds, mice and bouncing balls.
