France’s Savencia Fromage & Dairy is planning to close a domestic facility in 2022 with 83 permanent staff and 20 temporary workers set to lose their jobs, according to a local trade union.
The union that represents workers at the site, told the move has been made because the site is not profitable, has said it deplores the decision.
The plant, in Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines in central France, makes speciality cheese and walnut products under the Rambol brand.
Jean-Pierre Seno, a Savencia group coordinator for the FGTA-FO union, told just-food: “Today Savencia wants to increase its profitability and that means closing unprofitable sites.”
Seno, who said he had learnt of the closure after a meeting with officials at the factory on 16 September, added: “We deplore the way of making these redundancies and we remain vigilant so that our colleagues can negotiate with PES [the regional employment authority] under the best conditions with the support of our federation.”
just-food has asked Savencia for further information on the closure plan.
