Japan’s Otsuka Pharmaceutical has expanded its business in France with the acquisition of local organic supplier BC Bio for an undisclosed sum.
The deal was struck through Nutrition & Santé, the France-based dietary and organic food group Otsuka snapped up in 2009.
Based in Auch in south-western France, BC Bio manufactures and markets fresh and organic products under two brands – Les P’tits chefs du Bio in health food stores and Alice et Bio, which is sold through supermarkets.
The company, set up in 2012, was described as an “organic food start-up” by Otsuka, which was “based on the principle of familiar gourmet items created from fresh, locally harvested organic foodstuffs”.
Otsuka added: “The company has continued to grow by leveraging production and marketing know-how for free-from foods, with a focus on organic gluten-free and organic meat-free pizza.
“The acquisition of BC Bio will enable N&S to grow its portfolio of organic food products and expand its overall business base by maximising synergies between the two organisations.”
