The Office of Fair Trading has advertised in this month’s edition of Milk Industry magazine in a bid to identify an anonymous complainant.

OFT officials have declined to comment on the nature of the complaint other than to say that it was “obviously of interest” because the Office has taken the unusual tack of advertising to find the complaint’s author.

The advert reads: “On July 17 we received an anonymous complaint relating to the dairy industry. We are unable to take any action unless the author of the letter contacts our competition enforcement branch, CE7, by telephone on 0207 211 8730.

“By telephoning us, the caller will not be putting their anonymity at risk.”
