Spanish agrifood cooperative and the world’s largest olive grower, Dcoop, is considering launching a goat milk yogurt product, the group has told just-food.
A Dcoop spokesperson said today (5 September) that a research project is under way as part of its activities involving new product development.
The spokesperson said: “We produce over 30 million litres of goat milk in Southern Spain, which represents 8% of the Spanish market. We have been selling it in bulk, but we are working on ways of obtaining added value. Some of our coops produce goat cheese in their facilities and we are involved in a research project to obtain a goat milk yogurt.”
According to Dcoop, one of Spain’s leading agrifood cooperatives, the group achieved a turnover in Spain of EUR938m (US$1bn) in 2015. The group’s production and processing portfolio also includes pork and grains.
Last year, Dcoop and US distributor Pompeian Group said there were merging their businesses to create a “global leader” in the olive oil sector.
