US food group Pinnacle Foods has pulled the plug on the UK operations of free-from subsidiary Boulder Brands.

“After reviewing the Boulder Brands UK business, Pinnacle Foods decided to continue to focus on its North American branded food business and, accordingly, has ceased BBUK’s operations in the UK marketplace,” the company said in a short statement sent to just-food.

Pinnacle Foods, which sealed its acquisition of Boulder Brands at the start of the year, declined to comment on the reasons for the move.

Boulder Brands entered the UK in 2013. In May of that year, Boulder Brands snapped up local gluten-free baker Davies Bakery.

“While this acquisition is not material on size, we’re very excited about the potential taking the Udi’s brand to the UK,” then Boulder Brands CEO Steve Hughes said at the time. “We [will] utilise Davies state of the art gluten-free manufacturing facility and expertise in UK market.” Boulder Brands launched its gluten-free brand Udi’s into the UK that autumn. Boulder Brands continued to launch more products under the Udi’s brand in the UK, rolling out snack products in the country late last year.
