Danone’s US arm Dannon has launched a Greek frozen yoghurt product under the Oikos brand.

Available in six flavours including café latte, black cherry and key Lime, the Dannon Oikos Greek Frozen Yoghurt product claims to contain “half the fat of regular ice cream and six grams of protein in every serving”. In addition it contains active yoghurt cultures and “is an excellent source of calcium” said the firm.

“While the phenomenon of Greek yogurt continues to drive growth in the refrigerated section, the trend is just starting to expand into the frozen aisle,” said Art D’Elia, vice president of marketing at Dannon. “Frozen yogurt is the single largest driver of growth in frozen desserts.

Dannon Oikos Greek Frozen Yogurt is available nationwide in pint containers at an MSRP of US$3.99.

The line will compete with the likes of Unilever’s Ben & Jerry, which sells Greek-style forzen yoghurt in the US.

Last month, Unilever took the product into the UK market in a bid to replicate its success in the US.
