Dutch grocery wholesaler Schuitema, which is majority owned by Dutch retail giant Royal Ahold, has announced that its 2002 sales rose 4.6% to €3.66bn (US$3.8bn).

“The conversion of our A&P supermarkets into the C1000 formula contributed to the result as well as autonomous growth at C1000,” Schuitema spokesman Karel-Jan van den Hoven told Reuters.

C1000 sales increased 24% €3.49bn and the chain increased its market share in the Netherlands to 14.6% from 12.4% a year ago. Schuitema said that it expects to maintain growth at its C1000 stores in 2003.
