German dairy firm Muller has confirmed it has entered into talks over improving efficiency at its plant in Market Drayton in the UK, a move that could lead to a loss of 43 jobs.

In a statement the dairy processor said the move was part of a review of operational efficiencies at the plant. The facility employs 792 staff.

Roger Emery, operations director at Müller Dairy said: "We must continually adapt to changes in the requirements being made of us. We operate in a very competitive environment and it is important that our structure reflects the current and future needs of the business. It is right that we take time to undertake a review which takes into account the views of our employees."

The consultation period is expected to last 30 days.
