Mondelez International is to close one of its two Spanish offices and have a single headquarters for its operations in the country.
The two offices, in Madrid and Barcelona, employ 231 and 167 employees respectively. The Milka chocolate owner plans to just have a single office in the Spanish capital.
The firm said the restructure aimed to “simplify its operations, improve efficiency, increase the career opportunities for its employees and reduce costs”.
Mondelez International is expected to start talks with staff in each office “to agree on solutions best adapted to the needs of its employees”.
“Whenever possible, to mitigate the potential effects of this decision, Mondelez International will offer affected employees opportunities to relocate to Madrid,” a spokesperson told just-food. “In addition, we expect that some employees will opt for professional opportunities in the new coffee partnership that the company is creating with Douwe Egberts Master Blenders”.
The move from the Barcelona to the Madrid office is expected to take place in next summer.
