Kansas City-based company Interstate Bakeries, the US’ largest wholesale bakery, has reported earnings of US$27.1m during the first quarter of this year, which is a significant increase from the US$9.8m that the company earned during the same period last year.
The company, which operates sixty-two bakeries across the country and is behind the Home Pride, Butternut, Marie Callender’s, Dolly Madison, Hostess Twinkies and Wonderbread brands, suffered last year after a discrimination lawsuit was brought against it by San Francisco employees.
Interstate’s sales increased to US$839m, a 1.7% increase from last year, beating expectations. During the quarter, the company reports that it also managed to reduce its debt by US$35m.
