Swiss dairy group Emmi has acquired local speciality cheese maker Käserei Studer for an undisclosed sum.
Käserei Studer, which generated sales of CHF20m (US$26m) in 2012, manufactures Der Scherfe Maxx semi-hard cheeses that are distributed in Switzerland and Germany. Emmi said it plans to expand sales by feeding Käserei Studer products into its existing international distribution channels.
“Käserei Studer AG has excellent know-how in the production of speciality cheeses and makes premium quality Swiss products. Emmi can help the company expand sales internationally. This is a win-win situation for both parties,” Emmi CEO Urs Riedener said.
Käserei Studer will continue to operate on an independent basis.
