Snacks group Calbee has booked an increase in full-year profit, despite what it claims was an “uncertain” Japanese economy.
In the 12 months to the end of March, earnings increased 33% to JPY9.44bn (U$92.8m), despite a JPY370m loss from the voluntary recall of Kata-Age Potato, it said.
Operating income increased 28.9% to JPY15.79bn due to the effects of increased sales from marketing investment made with the aim of expanding its domestic market.
Sales were up 9.9% to JPY179.4bn.
Overall, profits and sales showed a “significant” increase compared to the previous fiscal year, Calbee said, which were impacted by the effects of the Great East Japan earthquake.
