Campbell Soup Co. has announced a change of president for its business in North America.

The US food giant has appointed Mark Alexander, president of its international operations, to the role. He succeeds Sean Connolly, who is leaving the firm to join Sara Lee as CEO of its North American retail and foodservice business, one of the two companies the US group is creating through its spin off.

In his role, Alexander will be responsible for the firm’s North American soup, sauces and beverages business. His appointment is effective from 16 January.

“I am confident that, under Mark’s leadership, Campbell North America will maintain its strong progress in stabilising and then profitably growing US soup and simple meals, and continue to advance the consumer-driven innovation and brand-building initiatives that are now well under way across our North American businesses,” said Campbell president and CEO Denise Morrison.

Since joining Campbell in 1989, Alexander has held marketing, sales and management roles in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. Before assuming his current role, he served as chief customer officer and president of Campbell’s North American baking and snacking operations.
