The Bulgarian unit of French dairy giant Danone has transferred the ownership of its production to its US “partner” Schreiber Foods.

A spokesperson for Danone Serdika told just-food today (13 September) the move will include the group’s dairy industrial facilities located in the country’s capital, Sofia.

Danone said the move is in line with its strategy aimed at developing the group’s “strong market position in Bulgaria” and ensuring better competitiveness by “optimising capacity and expenses”.

“This will preserve the continuity of employment and will keep the production of the products for Danone Serdika in the factory in Sofia,” the spokesperson said.

“Danone is confident in the sustainability of this decision which will bring new opportunities to collaborators and current local partners and suppliers, such as dairy farmers, while providing the same level of quality and requirements to its local consumers.”

The spokesperson said Danone Serdika will meet with Schreiber’s management over the next few days to ensure a “smooth transition to the new owner”.
