UK dairy Dale Farm has opened a cheese and whey processing facility as part of plans to expand sales at home and abroad.
The site, located near Cookstown in Northern Ireland, is part of a GBP39m (US$64m) investment programme announced three years ago.

Dr David Dobbin, Dale Farm’s group chief executive, said the spending had “transformed” the company’s product range and manufacturing capability and was helping it compete worldwide.
“We are achieving sales growth of over 30% this year and winning new business with growing sales across the British Isles and in key export markets such as China, Russia the Middle East and Africa,” Dr Dobbin said.
“We are now well positioned to face the challenges coming out of the ending of milk quotas in 2015, especially with the doubling of our cheese and whey processing capacity at Cookstown.”
Dairy processors across Europe are looking to build their production networks ahead of the end of EU quotas on milk production in two years’ time. Manufacturers are eyeing booming demand for dairy in China and positioning their businesses to tap into that growth with a series of investments.
