Sales of goods that guarantee fair prices to growers and producers in the developing world have seen an increase in UK sales of 40% in the last year.
The sale of fair trade goods such as teas, coffee and cocoa has been pioneered by charities such as Oxfam and Traidcraft. Many high street supermarkets now stock fair trade goods, with £1.50 (US$2.33) being spent on fair trade goods every second in the UK, reported BBC online.
A new fair trade global logo is being launched today [Thursday] which it is hoped will provide a recognisable global guarantee that a product is fairly traded.
