An explosion has hit an Archer Daniels Midland cocoa processing site in the Netherlands.

ADM’s facility in the Dutch town of Wormer suffered an explosion within one of its production lines yesterday (19 January) evening. No staff were injured.

“At approximately 7.30 p.m., there was an explosion in one of the production lines of our cocoa processing facility in Wormer, Netherlands, followed by a short intense fire. Employees immediately evacuated the site and called the Wormer Fire Brigade,” ADM’s European marketing and communications director Sara Vermeulen said.

“The Wormer Fire Brigade extinguished the fire and we now have access to the site. There were no injuries, and the warehouse is unaffected.”

ADM refused to be drawn on the impact the explosion could have on production and said it was “assessing the possible impact of the incident on our operations”.
