Discount retailer Lidl has confirmed its plans to invest in the construction of a distribution centre in Greece.

The retailer is building a 35,000sq m plant in Attica in the south of Greece. Completion is expected in 2013 and will create “hundreds” of new jobs, a spokesperson for Lidl told just-food today (7 July).

The spokesperson added Lidl will continue to invest in the country, “despite the economic circumstances in Greece”.

The distribution centre is expected to complement Lidl’s existing four distribution centres in Greece, located in Patra, Trikala, Gefyra and Thiva. The retailer also operates 220 stores in Greece.
