Although specific details were not available, an official with the Canadian Embassy said Mexico had eased its ban on Canadian beef “exactly like the US did,” reported Dow Jones Commodities Service.


On Friday, US Agriculture Secretary Ann M Veneman announced that the US Department of Agriculture would begin accepting applications for import permits for certain ruminant derived products from Canada.


Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry confirmed it would begin accepting boneless Canadian beef from cattle slaughtered before they are 30 months old.


The US and Mexico were among several countries that banned imports of Canadian beef after a single case of mad cow disease was discovered in Alberta in May.
